With 30 years of legal experience, Paul Van Slyke's practice focuses on commercial and intellectual property litigation and transactions--primarily Lanham Act trademark infringement, trade dress infringement, and false advertising, and copyright infringement and brand protection, technology law, cosmetics law, copyright law, trade secrets, anti-counterfeiting law, unfair competition, and misappropriation of name and likeness claims. He has counseled clients in a variety of industries, including, food and beverage, cosmetics, fashion, luxury goods, apparel, consumer, retail, non-profit, technology, digital media, and entertainment. He has substantial experience in licensing and technology agreements. He also focuses on FDA and FTC compliance with consumer advertising and labeling requirements. Paul also has represented clients in opposition and cancellation actions before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and in domain name disputes under the UDRP. He also does trademark prosecution, licensing agreements, and clearance of product labeling, promotions, and advertising.

Paul was a partner in a highly regarded, international law firm and the global head of its trademark, copyright and branding practice, and litigation. Earlier in his career, he gained IP experience in-house for a major oil company. Paul was the Chair of the International Trademark Association Committees on Anti-Counterfeiting Law and Right of Publicity Law. Also, he was the Chair of the American Bar Assn. Litigation Section Committee on Computer and eCommerce Litigation.

Paul teaches Advertising and Marketing Law at the University of Houston Law School.
